What is the resin made of?

Resin is a monomer for making a plastic thermosetting polymer. During the setting process, the liquid monomer polymerizes into the polymer, thereby hardening into a solid. There are numerous types of resin, but the main 3 used in industry are polyester, vinylester and epoxy resins. Here at S&S Exmoor we mainly use Polyester resin.

How are the moulds made?

The moulds are definitely the most time-consuming part of the sculpting process. They are made of rubber, and in many cases, several are attached together and are needed to be able to complete just 1 sculpture.

How long does it take to make a sculpture?

There is no set time limit as to how long a sculpture can take to make. Time varies greatly based on how detailed/intricate the design is. More detailed sculptures take longer to make as they are more fragile and therefore require more care with processes such as fettling.
